Pursuing A Fitness Lifestyle Where Thinking Happens

    December 5th, 2008
    · Filed Under: Inspiration and Motivation · P90X Extreme Home Fitness

In my 20 plus years being in the world of the fitness lifestyle, from being a 200 & 400 meter sprinter to being a sprint coach and now a Team Beachbody Coach, one the of biggest struggles I’ve seen with people is being consistent due to that space between their ears! Especially people who struggle long term fitness/weight loss results.

Like what? They THINK about the wrong things!

The majority of people who are trying to lose weight are thought-focused on looking at the scale! Every morning checking their weight. They dwell on that number. Others in the gym just gotta see their bench press weight get bigger each and every workout. Getting upset if they don’t improve each workout. Yet there are others who struggle with overeating or eating the wrong foods. Then eat more of those sweets. Or they miss a couple of workouts in a row. Then it becomes 3 weeks.

The worst part is, they beat themselves up mercilessly about it! Their THOUGHTS destroy any momentum they’ve gained. It’s a slippery slope from there. Dwelling on everything they’ve done wrong. Over and over again. Soon sliding back into the bad eating habits and completely giving up working out altogether.

What you think makes a HUGE IMPACT on your path of life!

There are days when even I have struggled in the last 70+ days with my P90X Lean workouts. *Gasp* Shocking I know. :) LOL Though my situation is a little different as I’m trying to get back into shape after the car accident in January that left me inactive until the end of September due to my injuries. It is a constant battle in my head with my own thought process about what I go through on a daily basis with the quality of my workouts, the foods I eat, the sleep I don’t get, etc, etc. But I IMMEDIATELY nip that thinking in the bud the moment I catch those thoughts trying to attack me.

You know those thoughts don’t you? We all have. What we think is what we attract and become. Why do you think so many people fail at their new years resolutions? They beat themselves up with their thoughts…setting themselves up for failure. Reinforcing that vicious cycle instead of understanding that life happens and a fitness lifestyle is a journey, not a number.

A few weeks ago, I ran across a great archived blog post by P90X’s Tony Horton, that really hit home for me. Tony made some brilliant points that led me to blogging this for all of you today hoping you glean something valuable from reading it. Here it is:

Cheat, Slow Down & Take Breaks

I’ve discovered over the years that one of the main reasons why people can’t stay fit and healthy is because they put so much pressure on themselves to see constant improvement in their performance and appearance. They also become discouraged when things like strength, energy, range of motion and endurance waver from workout to workout. For some reason many of us think that with every workout we’re supposed to get stronger, leaner and better. The truth is, no one can continuously maintain or sustain an ever improving level of energy and enthusiasm for every workout. It’s impossible. There are dozens of factors that effect how we’re able to accomplish things. Sleep, stress, diet, weather, illness, injuries, biorhythms and more, all play a part in your day to day successes, disappointments, accomplishments and setbacks.

My 5th Law of Health and Fitness is Reality. If reality dictates that you’re wiped out after a long day, and at the end of that long day you have a PlyoX workout to do, then let reality play a roll in how you will do that workout. Some choose to skip the workout altogether because they feel (prior to starting) that their performance will be substandard based on past performances. Others might ‘get through it” but beat themselves up afterward because they weren’t as strong or capable as in past workouts. If this kind of mental gymnastics is happening with you, then understand that comparing your present situation with past ones will make you crazy. This kind of thinking is a leading cause for why people can’t get or stay fit and healthy.

Life is filled with ups and downs, and these ups and downs will inevitably affect the quality of our workouts. When I ask you to do your best and forget the rest, I’m asking you to see if you can show up and be okay with how you’re doing right now, not last time. The place and head space you’re in right now is all you have. Why would you want to ruin it by comparing it to  something else? If a particular workout seems daunting prior to starting it, then I say, it’s okay to “get through it” anyway you can. This includes using that pause button on your remote often if necessary. It’s also okay to skip parts of a workout. Run-in-place or stretch during Bow to Boat or Plyo Push-ups if your too tired or not in the mood. I’m here to tell you that it’s perfectly okay to cheat like hell, take breaks and skip some moves if that’s what you need to do to get through a workout. I do.

Any workout (no matter how altered it is) is always better than no workout at all. When you shift your mind set to doing something (even when you don’t want to) you’ll be less likely to completely fall off the fitness wagon. Don’t let your ego fight what’s happening to you right now. Gracefully accept the conditions that present themselves as opposed to fighting the reality of your situation. I’ve mentioned the fight or flow scenario before and it applies here as well. Go-with-the-flow based only on who you are right now, and stop fighting the truth of now because you so desperately need to keep up with your past. If you can do this and accept this, then you’ll know how to stay fit and healthy for the rest of your life.

Hopefully Tony Horton’s words connected with you as they did with me. :)

Looking For Real CHANGE? Yes YOU Can!

    November 10th, 2008
    · Filed Under: Coach Timothy Carter's Journal · Health and Fitness · Team Beachbody

Yes you can! I’ve been hearing and reading that a lot lately! ;)

As I mentioned in the previous blog, Team Beachbody Style, I’m in the time of year where I’m mind-mapping my dreams & making plans for the new year! Creating intention for what I want to achieve! My mind map for 2009 is HUGE! Big Team Beachbody plans! Seminars in the pipeline and a few other exciting ideas that are filling up my latest mind mapping adventure for 2009. I like to use http://www.bubbl.us It’s free to use! Save a tree! :)

Every successful entrepreneur gets ready. Dreams big. Prepares. Plans for success! You should also be asking yourselves “what is my plan? For today, tomorrow and the future?” Such as income, goals, family, relationships, friendships, etc. Do you have a vision of what you want to be reviewing this time next year? What is your plan to get there?

For me, I can answer that question easily…whether people are looking at information about me as a coach or as a role model, are interested in becoming a fitness lifestyle coach with Team Beachbody themselves, or people who just want to know what my plan is and whether I am following it or not…why? Because this is a LIFESTYLE. Not a fad, not a super juice…fitness is a radical concept as a “lifestyle” to the couch potato generation. But is something that’s desperately needed with the rise of obesity in America and Type 2 Diabetes affecting a new person every 21 seconds. This is change! Radical change!

So what is MY plan? There’s a couple pieces to that puzzle! ;)

Besides running an incredibly successful and lucrative Team Beachbody home business, part of my plan includes being as fit and healthy as I can possibly be so that I can spend as much quality time with my beautiful wife, family & friends as I can. A lifestyle. I Commit To Fitness.

Each day I workout, I log into WOWY, Beachbody’s virtual SuperGym, (click here and then on “My Workouts”), invite people to work out with me (click here and then on “My Buddies”), and then I also keep this blog up to date as part of my intention to share with you that lifestyle of fitness and financial freedom I lead, a life that is possible for you.

Continuing to improve on being the best Team Beachbody Coach through personal development (I’ll share more about that in another post) so that I can continue to be a full-time work at home husband. Being a part of “The Work At Home Generation”. To me, this is the ultimate lifestyle. The freedom to be at home & not committed to a paycheck that requires me to commute for it!

Driven to leading my Team Beachbody Club members to the “holy grail” of optimal health and fitness - leading by example and being fully committed to each and every member to answer their questions and give them support and motivation and inspiration. It is a lifestyle, not a get-rich-quick scheme. It’s about changing people’s lives. About changing my life…changing your life!

I also plan on leading my team of Independent Beachbody Coaches to the ultimate goal of financial freedom. With the apparent economic woes, money has become tight for everyone lately and a couple hundred extra dollars a month could make ALL the difference in the world to millions of people locked into a salary. If they want to earn a few hundred extra dollars a month or a few thousand or more, I’m here to help them every step of the way.  Earning a living by being a Team Beachbody Coach is something to be excited about because you have helped other people get fit and healthy as your “job”. A fitness lifestyle.

My lifestyle revolves fully around LIVING a fitness oriented life, then sharing that health and fitness mindset to help everyone around me who is looking for change! I LIVE that plan every day of my life! YES I CAN! ;) It’s my passion, it’s my heart’s desire to see millions of people regain their freedom from a job and the gift of incredible health & fitness. A lifestyle that is life changing!

So that’s my plan in a very small nutshell…like I said, I’ve got BIG plans for 2009. A lot of fun and work to be done! :)

Getting Ready For New Years Team Beachbody Style

    November 5th, 2008
    · Filed Under: From the Beachbody CEO · Team Beachbody

With Team Beachbody and really with any part of life you strive to improve, you set goals. You dream, you plan and prepare to achieve that which you desire. Every November, I begin that process of setting goals, dreaming big and making plans for the year upcoming especially so with my Beachbody Coaching business. In all parts of my life from my personal development, to my marriage, my spiritual life, my business…I believe in having targets to shoot at. Goals to motivate. Are you planning your 2009? Do you have goals for your personal life? Your health & fitness? Business?

Well, the man behind the curtain (actually, he’s never behind the curtain, he’s got peeps for that) Beachbody CEO, Carl Daikeler wrote from the heart the other day on his blog about what it means to plan and prepare and get ready for a tremendous 2009 with Team Beachbody.  As a Team Beachbody Coach, I am truly excited that the vision Carl has for people, this company, for the Coaches, fits exactly with my heart’s desire for decades…that is to help people achieve optimal health and provide a means to change their lives! Physically and FINANCIALLY. We have that vehicle with Beachbody Coaching.

Here’s what he wrote the other day…

    Plan for New Years, NOW!

This post is about you taking “just enough” action to become a coach and making sure that you are part of the revolution as a coach who can get fit and earn; not just a spectator watching everyone else.

For some, becoming a Beachbody Coach can look intimidating. They are the people that usually watch opportunity pass them by. They cruise around social networking sites and see a ton of other coaches milling around the same groups and think that it’s going to be hard to compete in a crowded marketplace.

First - it just isn’t crowded. Second - You won’t find out unless you sign up and see that it only takes a little effort to see things start to happen.

Right now we have less than 14,000 coaches - great number in some respects, but merely a drop in the ocean of opportunity. There are hundreds of millions of people in this country. You can connect with many of them every day in so many ways. Hundreds of millions of people, and less than 2% of them have ever bought a Beachbody product.

But ALMOST ALL of them will justify over-indulging from now until New Years thinking they will start working out January second. “I’ll start right after New Years”…(That’s a familiar voice!)

Every year, this is the dance. And every year, this is the opportunity.

As a coach, your job is to stake your claim to that opportunity now - maybe not to make a million dollars a year, but maybe to simply get your share: If someone you know is going to buy a Beachbody product in 2009, they need to know that you are a distributor so they come to you to pick the right program and get the best results.

Tell people you are going to do P90X. Tell them you love Turbo Jam. Tell them when ChaLEAN Extreme launches, you are going to kick it off with a group of people for a three month boot camp. Create the enthusiasm so people have something to commit to this January — YOU!

But they won’t know unless you ARE a coach, and unless you tell them that WHEN they are ready, you have the solution. THAT’S HOW YOU ARE A FORCE OF CHANGE - by increasing the decibel level of how easy it can be to get started and succeed! And then simply being there to help them get started!

It’s as easy as reposting blogs like this on MySpace or Facebook. Give it your own flavor and add your coach web store address, but the message is worth repeating from one friend to another until it shows up on every profile on the Internet: These products work, and together we are the best source for success through peer support and motivation!

We priced this coaching concept low so as many people as possible would get involved and get the word out - not just about Beachbody, but about how this trend of obesity and all these health issues can be solved by supporting each other!

Get involved. Stake your claim. And let’s build the momentum of the Beachbody Revolution together!

    ———–

I love that! Be a change agent for people looking for a life changing opportunity! Be available for those who are ready to take that step to DECIDE…COMMIT…and have the support to SUCCEED! Team Beachbody is a LIFESTYLE and I’m blessed to be a leader with such an incredible company! If you missed it, here is the blog post I wrote, Why Timothy Carter Joined The Team Beachbody Revolution.

Day 28 Results of P90X Lean Are In For Me

    October 29th, 2008
    · Filed Under: Coach Timothy Carter's Journal · P90X Extreme Home Fitness

Being a Team Beachbody Coach AND getting back in shape after 9 months of inactivity due to a car accident in January that left me with several herniated discs in my neck (headaches included) with Tony Horton’s P90X has been full of “jo-ooy and pain…sunshine and rain, pump, pump, pump it up, joy and pain…sunshine and rain”! A little Rob Base & DJ EZ Rock in my head at the moment!

    :-)

It feels really good to be active and working out after all this time! It hurts so good! I’m sore…that sucks, but at the same time the old adage my sprint coach used to say to me while I was training for the 400m sprints. “Pain is just weakness leaving your body”. I resemble that remark! LOL Every part of me is SORE! And I think I like it this week!

After nearly a year of physical inactivity due to the car wreck in January, I’m really enjoying listening to my body and how it feels working out. But…

…there’s a part of the process of being a Coach that I have to do…and that is take pictures of myself after 28 days, 56 days and 90 days! I have no problem with how I’ll look at day ninety…it’s day 1 and day 28 I wasn’t so excited to look at.

The pictures get added to my Million Dollar Body page to show the physical transformation of Coach Timothy Carter! It also becomes part of my submission for the Monthly Success Story Contest on the Million Dollar Body Game to win cash prizes up to $10,000 & recognition company wide! As well as the grand prize each year of $250,000!

Now as far as the P90X workouts have gone for me…they’ve been INTENSE! “I bring it” to every workout until I can’t work no more! I don’t think I’ve finished an entire workout yet. Seriously. Definitely dripping with sweat after each workout! I still have range of motion issues when it comes to certain exercises with my neck and right shoulder as well as my right knee, but I modify the exercises so I can continue to strengthen those weak areas without causing injury to those parts of my body. It’s working!

Looking in the mirror before the photos were taken by my wife on Day 28, I couldn’t tell a difference in my body…but I can FEEL it. More range of motion in my shoulder, increased flexibility in my legs and hip from the Stretch X and Yoga X workouts. FEELING sore everywhere, but noticing strength slowly start to come into my movements and parts of my body.

    Sooo…

On Day 1, September 23rd, a week before my 36th birthday…I got weighed and had my bodyfat calculated.

200lbs and 30% bodyfat! With a 44″ waist!!! :( Are ya kidding me? I had more than some pudding under my skin! Maybe a few brownies in there too? LOL I hated reading those numbers.

Then Day 28 came along, October 20th…weighed and bodyfat calculated again. The results…

196lbs and 25% bodyfat! With a waist measured at 41.5 inches! Yes! I’m not complaining about that!

    :)

I have avoided looking at the scale from day-to-day…I don’t want to be “that person” who checks the scale every day, twice a day…before meals, after meals! LOL :)

With those numbers, I’m very pleased with the results so far in my limited abilities doing P90X. Whoo hoo! Though I have to admit, I really need to dial in my daily nutritional intake. It could be a little bit cleaner, and I’ll work on that this month.

Sooo…at this point of the post, I strongly suggest to swiftly scroll down past the two Pillsbury Dough Boy look-alike pictures of me and look forward to seeing the day 56 results blog post.

    Seriously…

    Now, I’m not joking…

    You’ve got one last chance…

    …to change your mind,

    …avert your eyes

    …scroll quickly…NOW!

    Dang…you’re still here…

    ;) LOL

    Okayyyy…

Well, I guess you can look at them since you’re here and get a few giggles in…

Day 1 of P90X Picture of Timothy CarterDay 28 P90X Pics of Timothy Carter

Okay, okay, wipe away the tears from your eyes and take a deep breath so your stomach will stop hurting from laughing too hard! I know, I need a tan (I live in Seattle remember?) and I’ve got too much pudding under my skin! ;) LOL She got closer on my day 28 pics and I DO see that I’m slimming down in my stomach and gaining a little bit more size in my arms and chest! So that’s cool, because I don’t see it in the mirror…yet! Mrs. C wasn’t kidding!

It will really be nice to get back in shape after all this time! I look forward to hiking all around Mt. Rainier next year AND being in shape to compete out at some Disc Golf tournaments in 2009! Heck, maybe even try to run in one of those adventure trail running races. I’m not a distance runner by any means! We’ll see what 2009 brings!

Just stay tuned for the next blog post from me and then the day 56 results on my P90X Lean workouts! I can’t wait to see how I’m leaning out then!

*The Beachbody lead generation program and income potential is based on the information outlined in our policies and procedures, and the Beachbody Coach Compensation Program. How many clients you receive and how fast you get them is based solely upon how well you build your business along with your ability to reach and maintain Emerald Coach status. Your results and income will vary. There is no guarantee that you will earn any money. Please read the Team Beachbody Terms and Conditions, Policies and Procedures, and the Team Compensation program for complete details. A Qualified Coach is an Active Team Beachbody Coach who has reached the level of Emerald status as described in the Team Beachbody Compensation Program.
